How to Care for Fantail Pigeon

Tail Shaker
Fantail pigeon is a well known breed of fancy pigeons; its fan-shaped tail that usually has 30 to 40 feathers is what makes it so popular. This special pigeon breed is believed to have originally been from Spain, India or China.
This breed have subvarieties that include; the Indian Fantail, the English Fantail and the Thai Fantail.
Fantail Pigeon Care
Fantail pigeons are also called tail shakers; they are so beautiful with their slender necks, tiny heads and of course their much admired elegant fan-shaped tails. They are simply stunning and anyone would think that they will be hard to maintain. Although they are fancy pigeons, it is to take care of these species.
All it requires is a comfortable housing with large spaces and flat perches wherein it can just perch and spread its wings. The perches should clean to keep the pet healthy. Setting it free to fly in an empty room or a good flying space once in a while will let it have enough exercise to keep it strong.
It is easy to give fantail pigeon a bath as it loves to just plunge and play in the water. A bath twice a week is enough, but during the cold winter months, once a week is enough.
A bird that is sick should be put in a separate place; the loft could have a small division for sick birds, this is to avoid contamination.
Basic Foods for a Fantail Pigeon
One of the most important things a fantail pigeon needs is fresh and chemical free water; it should be supplied with it twice a day. To keep this bird healthy, it should be given feeds of good quality that you can purchase from a reputable pet store.
Mixing commercial pigeon feeds with grains will work wonders with the growth of your pets. Be sure that the grains you will combine with your pigeon mix have not been infested with bugs. Ideal missing grains are Milo, barley, wheat, millet, corn, green peas, buckwheat and popcorn (unpopped).
Feeding Habits of a Fantail Pigeon
Fantail Pigeon loves to eat snacks, veggies and fruits. It is not hard to please as it eats almost anything; but you must plan their diet carefully avoid giving them left-over from your own table.

Fantail homing Pigeon
Fantail pigeon also love to nibble on peanuts, raw sesame seeds, garlic green, lettuce, sunflower hearts, grated carrots, hemp, peas, spinach leaves and kale.
It is also fond of fruits like papaya and certain sprouts.
Fantail pigeon diet must include lots of carbohydrates and calcium to keep it strong. It should also get constant supply of vitamin supplements.
Make sure that you will clean the feeding areas properly, to avoid the possibility of the birds eating the left-over that can make them sick.
Fantail pigeon is a very beautiful breed of pigeon and it is usually kept as a pet. Most breeders also used this type of pigeon in racing, by letting it perch outside the loft to act as a signal for home for the homing bird.
