The Hobbyist’s Pigeon Loft
Posted on 27. Jun, 2011 by Joann in Racing pigeon lofts
The pigeon fanciers believe that they have their own ways to raise their pigeons–one secret is the pigeon loft.

Pigeon Lofts
When you build your loft cozy and spacious enough for your pigeons, then it will be a great stimulus for them to become one of the best.
Depending on the number of pigeons you have, the pigeon lofts should be well ventilated. A pigeon loft should render comfort to your pigeons and the birds should feel safe in it. One way of doing so is by watching out for possible dangers like dogs, or other predators. The loft must be secure.
Stress Free Pigeon Loft
When the pigeons are not stressed, they will perform better especially when you are raising the breeds for competition. Pigeon loft is one key factor to providing comfort. You should provide a space for their food, and enough room for them to move about.
It is very important that your pigeon loft is weather proof. It should be regularly checked from damages especially during the cold weather and the rainy seasons. The loft must provide shelter during these seasons of the year.
Pigeon Loft Protects Your Pigeons
If the pigeon loft is not protected, your pigeons might get sick. Their performance during races might decline and so are your chances of winning these races. You must consider the environment on which you plan to build your loft. Consider all aspects that may affect your pigeon’s abilities.
Furthermore, it must also provide breathable space. Like us humans, pigeons need ample space to feel relaxed. When the pigeon loft is crowded, it might not be suitable for the pigeons. It must be spacious so that the air can circulate within the area because when it is ventilated, the lungs of the pigeons will benefit.

Small Pigeon Loft
Consider the Space inside the Pigeon Loft
When your pigeon loft is tiny compared to the number of pigeons you have, it might create stress between your pigeons. This is not good and may weaken your pigeons’ performance. Consider the space ratios for each of your pigeon. Planning a pigeon loft space for a large number of pigeons requires a large area. Crowded space might even kill some of the pigeons when they are not well ventilated.
A tiny space confining your pigeons might drive away some of your pigeons. So it is best that you make pigeon loft that can accommodate just the right number of pigeons. Example, if one pigeon requires one square foot of space, then twenty pigeons will require twenty square foot of space.
The form or the façade of a pigeon loft depends on your character. Some of those built have fancy designs as if it were a tiny residence for the pigeons. It is quite the same as building a house- but only for the birds.
The decors might differ from each hobbyist but what you must always consider when building a pigeon loft is the comfort of the pigeons that will justify it.
About Me
